A proprietary software tool developed as part of the RAMS compliance project undertaken for the Athens Metro lines 2 and 3 extension project; the RaCom database is a novel solution to the problem of managing RAMS activities throughout a project lifecycle.

The RaCom database has been developed to contain the information relating to systems, suppliers, equipment and RAMS related activities that is required to demonstrate compliance with standards and targets. It is built around the project lifecycle defined in European Norm EN50126, is fully configurable and can be customised to client and/or project requirements.

Access to the data is organised to present a clear and logical view of systems and/or equipment and the work carried out at each stage of the project lifecycle. This includes all reference data and reference documentation produced. As such it is an efficient and effective means of managing RAMS activities and provides control over RAMS tasks due to its versatility and the means to be able to see clearly what has been done, by whom and when.

The RaCom database is fully password protected to provide various levels of access ranging from read only access of selected data through to full administrator access to the records with the facility to add, delete and edit.

It is being developed to incorporate management of all RAMS related data including hazards, RAMS requirements and documentation.  By recording this data the RaCom application will function as a project hazard log, provide full tracking of all RAMS related requirements and a document control system for RAMS related documentation.

Like its counter part, the RaCom database is being migrated to the web it is now being migrated to the web in order to provide a centralised and secure tool for management and reporting of RAMS activities and assessments which constitutes a powerful tool, invaluable in the event that audits of RAMS tasks are required.
